How long does defrosted food last?

I froze a couple of portions of homemade soup in freezer bags (one portion of leek and potato, one portion of squash and sweet potato). Yesterday I took a bag of each out of the freezer and put them on the counter at room temperature to defrost enough to take out of the bag. For one reason or another, we ended up not eating them last night, and in the small hours of the morning I put the bags in the fridge.

Should it be OK to eat them for dinner tonight? I really don't want to waste them if I don't have to.

Thanks very much.
