evening drinks - alternative to hot choc?

PatsysPyjamas · 17/11/2014 21:21

I am trying not to drink during the week, but getting a bit bored of my nightly hot chocolate. Are there any other wintry hot drink alternatives that feel a bit luxurious?

Belivor do a hot winter spice cordial. Like a non alcoholic mulled wine

Same with hot apple juice heated with a cinnamon stick

Pippidoeswhatshewants · 17/11/2014 21:23

M&S do an awesome alcohol free mulled wine.
Spiced tea.

AlpacaYourThings · 17/11/2014 21:23

Have you tried the 'Green Bottle' Spiced Berry? It's like mulled wine, but non alcoholic.

X post with all the non alcoholic mulled wine suggestions

Twinings Cherry & Cinnamon is lush :)

BathshebaDarkstone · 17/11/2014 21:27

Damn I was going to mention Bottle Green spiced berry as well! A new discovery for me today. Smile

FelixTitling · 17/11/2014 21:28

You can't beat a hot vimto.

PatsysPyjamas · 17/11/2014 21:36

Mmm. Thanks all. Felix, I just had a hot blackcurrant! However, I am liking the sound of spicy cordial. Are there any other creamy drinks?

I like herbal/fruit teas. I have just had a blackcurrant one.

PuggyMum · 17/11/2014 21:42

I love a Horlicks. And whittads have some lovely hot chocolates. They do a dreamtime which is a hot choc for bed and their white hoc choc is to die for!

PuggyMum · 17/11/2014 21:42

Whittards even!

FelixTitling · 17/11/2014 21:43

Milo is nice.

FelixTitling · 17/11/2014 21:44

Sorry, posted too soon. Milo is a nice milky drink somewhere between and hot choc and a Horlicks.

TheSpottedZebra · 17/11/2014 21:45

What about a chai latte?

hugoagogo · 17/11/2014 21:47

How about a milky Chai?
I like ovaltine myself or nesqik, but I know I am not cool.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 17/11/2014 21:47

Warm full-fat milk with a spoonful of sugar, a drop of vanilla, and a sprinkling of freshly ground nutmeg.

PatsysPyjamas · 17/11/2014 21:51

Does chai have caffeine in it?
I like the sound of ALL of these. I will become the queen of non-alcoholic winter drinks! White choc hot chocolate - is that really sickly sweet?

OP posts:
hugoagogo · 17/11/2014 21:55

Chai is made with black tea, so has got caffeine in it, but it is not strong. You might want to avoid it if you are sensitive to it though.

I could drink a double macchiato before bed and still sleep like a baby Grin

TheSpottedZebra · 17/11/2014 21:55

I think it has a small amount of caffeine. Or you could mix your own?

I also like rooibos tea (no caffeine), wih either milk, or honey and lemon.

hugoagogo · 17/11/2014 21:57

Good old celestial seasonings

Floellabenjamin · 17/11/2014 21:58

Sleep tea- fair trade one is fab

PuggyMum · 17/11/2014 22:22

Yes it is rather sweet. I don't have it too often!

I discovered Horlicks on a cruise.... I saw an old lady making one and I got a whiff. I asked her what it was an she taught me how to make it (mix cold milk and stir thoroughly then add the hot milk!)

CointreauVersial · 17/11/2014 22:32

Blimey, do they still make Horlicks and Ovaltine? I haven't had either since I was a child.

How about Twinings Salted Caramel Green Tea?

traceybaybee · 17/11/2014 23:37

My gran has brought myself and all my siblings and cousins up on "cosy juice" translates as hot diluting juice. My 2yo neice asks for it every time she visits lol

MrsCakesPrecognition · 17/11/2014 23:42

Hot milk with a slosh of amaretto and a sprinkle of brown sugar is the ultimate wintry night cap.
