What is the best way to peel pumpkin?

I always end up in a mess and nearly cutting myself so would love to know if anyone has any tips Smile

If I can get away with not peeling it, I do that!
I would usually roast with skin on and peel off when cool.
Of course, depends how you are planning to cook it!

I will try roasting it first, great idea thanks :)

Yes, I second Werewolf's advice: after years of nearly slicing my arms open trying to peel a raw pumpkin, I just cut it in half, place both halves face down on a baking tray and roast until the skin starts to puff and blacken, then just peel the skin off and mash the flesh.

I think the roasting also adds flavour - probably as it starts to caramelize the sugars in the flesh or somesuch.

I just chop it into sections then use a potato peeler, works fine.
