How do I cook this pie?

We bought a home made chicken and ham pie from a farm shop at the weekend. It is frozen, and has no cooking instructions. Can I cook it straight from the freezer, or should I defrost it first? Temperature and cooking time ideas? It's quite large, puff pastry top and bottom.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Well, I would cook it from frozen, at 180c (my default setting).

Will take at least 30 minutes I'd imagine. You will obviously need to check the internal temp. If you don't have a probe (should reach 70c technically), then insert a skewer and feel the tip to see that it's piping hot.

It's going to take way longer than 30 minutes. Easily over an hour if it's frozen.

I would say from frozen, one hour at 170c. If defrosted first, 40 minutes at 180c. Based on my experience of buying frozen food from Cook you need to add 20 minutes to things if cooking from frozen. I would check it after 55 minutes/35 minutes.

Thanks - I do have a probe somewhere, will dig it out.

If I do a homemade pie that gives into the oven NOT frozen it takes a good 40/45 mins to get nice and hot inside and for the pastry to go an even colour all over.

It needs at least an hour OP.

As it's chicken I would definitely use a probe and probe some of the chicken (might be hard as it's inside the pie but not impossible). Small pies take about 30 mins from frozen so a larger pie will take around 50 mins to an hour on 180 but for better results I would cook on 170 for a little longer (less likely to end up with burnt crust and cold middle!).
