Hi everyone

I am thinking of making some homemade presents this Christmas to include things like fudge.

I am after suggestions of what jarred items I could make? I love lemon curd and would like to give some to my family but I'm worrying about how long they will keep?

If you have any suggestions please could you add how long they keep.

Thanks very much

I once made some chilli vodka (recipe from BBC Good Food) basically just leave some chopped chillis to steep in a jug of vodka overnight then decant into a sterilised bottle. Should keep for months and good as a base for Bloody Mary. Most chutneys will keep for at least 3 months but once opened need to be kept in the fridge.

I like the idea of all the dry ingredients for some cookies layered in a jar with instructions included but have never actually done this. Will watch thread with interest.

How about salt mixed with herbs and spices like perhaps salt, pink peppercorn, black peppercorn, chilli flakes and oregano together and label it chilli con carne seasoning. Or juniper berries could go in as a seasoned salt for Christmas game.

Or infused sugars just stick the spice/herb in a pot of sugar, leave to infuse and label with a recipe idea. Here's some things you could stick in:

Vanilla pod
Rosemary
Lavender
Cinnamon
Orange Peel
Orange Peel and Cinnamon
Rose petals

Scottish tablet is always popular too or you could do your own flavoured popcorn but I'd think you'd need bags and a vacuum packer for that. Unless you provided a jar with popcorn kernels in it and a sachet of homemade flavouring (this could be popular with teenagers) with instructions.

I've made lemon curd. It won't last as long as jam - about 1 to 2 months but once opened I'd use it within a week.
Have made a spicy cherry chutney for gifts this year and some cherry brandy. Piccalilli is always a favourite.
