scone with butter and jam vs cake?

I have recently discovered how much lower in sugar and fat scones are, compared with cake. I was wondering though if this apparent advantage is over-ridden once you've smothered it in butter and jam. It would seem a shame. Surely the butter and jam, not being integral, don;t really count...

I would imagine they're pretty similar, depending on how much butter and jam you use bearing in mind butter is fat and jam is mostly sugar
