Pie Help Please!

I plan to make a beef pie for dinner tonight, I found some casserole steak in the freezer which I chucked in the slow cooker yesterday with some red wine, thyme, carrots, beef stock and tomato puree with a view to turning it into a pie tonight. Its in the fridge chilling today.

My DH won't eat casseroles - says he doesn't like the texture of the meat but when its in a pie he doesn't bat an eyelid! So I thought I'd fool him with a casserole pie!

Anyway, I have bought some ready made short crust pastry but having never made a pie before in my life I am stuck on what to do next.

What do I cook it in? Pyrex dish, cake tin, foil tray?

Do I need to blind bake the pastry or just put the filling on the raw pastry and cook it all together?

I am normally quite accomplished in the kitchen but not being a pastry lover myself I've never mastered the art of pie making.

Any suggestions would be great as if i just serve up the casserole he'll turn his nose up but encased in pastry I am hoping it will be a winner Smile

Any of the dishes should be okay. If you are lining the pie with pastry, I would bake that blind, then add the meat and topping. I usually only pastry over the top (lazy). You also need to make a small cut in the top pastry with a knife to let the steam out. Bet the filling smells delicious!
