slow cooker novice - Chilli??

I want to make chilli con carne in my slow cooker while I am at work but all the recipes I have seen so far suggest browning the mince mad frying the onion first.

I don't have much tine in the morning, is that really necessary?

Anyone got a good recipe please?

I only brown the mince so I can drain all the fat. Even with lean mince you get a fair bit. Yuck I'm not eating that. Takes two minutes though then everything else I just chuck in.

you can just throw it all in, but I don't like the way the onion is. It's pesonal preference though, not an essential.

As a minimum I will sweat any veg for a slow cooker recipe, and as the pan is there then I tend to brown the meat too.

I'm the opposite I like 20% fat mince it has a much better flavour

I do brown onions and mince but I have a slow cooker where you can transfer the insert from job directly into slow cooker so it doesn't create extra mess

Make sure you don't add too much liquid (I do one can of tomatoes for 500g mince and no extra water), unless you are happy to reduce on the hob

I don't add the beans until an hour or so before serving

no it isn't necessary to brown it first.

Ah the fat, I didn't think of that, I am following slimming world so think I had better brown it first.

What spices do you all use?

I use cumin, paprika and chilli flakes (or fresh chilli, depends what I have in)

I use cumin, oregano, chilli powder and paprika I think. I tend to just look in the cupboard and chuck it in!
