Ok...when do you ice the christmas cake?

Thanks for all the advice on making christmas cakes. I am asuming you don't ice it until a few days before?

I think I made mine at the start of dec (last lot i'd soaked the fruit for about 6 months (forgot it was there) then added more brandy every few days marzipanned about a week before and iced about 2 days after. (so prob ready about the w/e b4 xmas i'd say)

cake blew DH's head away thou it was so brandyish! lol.

Ah, thanks.....oh, by the way, If the recepie says add whiskey, does that mean you can only "feed it" with whiskey? Can you mix the alcohol?

well, ahem my fruit was soaked in whiskey, but I did the little hole thingy and poured brandy over it ahem, might be why it was a bit on the rich side! lol.

I usually don't get around to icing mine until after Christmas Day - we don't usually eat any on the day itself becasue of all the other goodies!

I feed mine with whatever I can find. Amaretto and cointreau add a good twist. Normally ice it at midnight on xmas eve. Shoild be a bout a week after marzipanning to le it dry out. Depends how long the cake hangs around. My lot woof it asap...
