Fish pie- how much fish?

I was planning to make fish pie for dinner, trying to make an effort to eat less meat. I had one recently with a rosti topping which was great especially as the dc don't much like mash. I was just going to make up a white sauce, add parsley, peas and assorted fish and then do a rosti topping.

The question is, how much fish? I don't want to be mega frugal but I'm also aware fish is pricey. Recipes seem to vary a lot. And can I add boiled egg or is this a 70's thing that my mother hangs onto?!

The question

I tend to buy enough to average a fillet/ portion of fish/ seafood each. Of course depending on what fish you like, for 5 I would go for 4 fillets of fish (mix of white fish and salmon) plus a portion of mixed seafood for variety (prawns, mussels, squid etc). Lots of supermarkets do pre prepared fish pie mixes too which are handy.
I prefer without eggs but each to their own!

I'd go for similar quantities as Wish, or two packs of "fish pie mix" from the supermarket. I do like a boiled egg at the bottom though Smile

I use two packs of fish pie mix for 2 greedy adults and two fish pie loving children.

Or, and if you poach the fish gently in milk, use this milk to make your sauce - yum!

yy to milk sauce. It takes all my willpower to not just drink it!

Thanks all. I have used 400 g of fish pie mix from the fish counter, and 200g of king prawns. And I did make the sauce with the poaching milk. I omitted the egg!! It's currently in the oven and smells fab! Is taking longer than I expected to cook the rosti so I'm starving!!
