Ooo I have been thinking about getting one of these. So i'll be watching this thread with interest!

How much was it ilovecaboose? And where did you get it? Although I'd need a family sized one

tinbus · 24/09/2006 21:27

mmm happy cooking, i bought one a while ago and love it...

MrsMuddle · 24/09/2006 21:52

What are you planning to cook? I quite fancy one, but am a bit scared it will end up in the kitchen gadget graveyard along with the breadmaker, the ice-cream maker, the juicer, the chestnut roasting pan...

naswm · 24/09/2006 21:57

lol mrsmuddle - I too have a kitchen graveyard - ice cream maker is in there - but I do use my breadmaker. I bought a friend a chesnut roaster for Christmas last year....

sorry hijack over....

Got it from Robert Dyas (don't know if they're nationwide or not) for £16.49. They tend to do things dirt cheap on special offer.

I'm often exhausted when come back from uni - and we eat crap some nights cos I can't be bothered to cook. Often have a spare 1/2 hour or so in morning though - so hopefully if I can prepare food in morning and leave it to cook we will eat better.

Uni starts again this week so will be busy (will go into panic mode as have meeting with dissertation tutor tomorrow - so much work lies ahead).

Love new kitchen toys

we got one for a wedding pressie-six and a half years ago-and its never been used!!

sandyballs · 25/09/2006 11:17

I do a lovely simple cheating goulash in mine and everyone (even my fussy daughters) love it.

Just chuck in a couple of large packs of diced beef, 4-5 tins of condensed campbells cream of tomato soup, a few handfuls of button mushrooms, a couple of large chopped onions and some worcestershire sauce. Leave on low for approx 8-10 hours. Approx 1 hr before end throw in some chopped green peppers. Just before serving stir in some soured cream. Sounds odd reading this back but it is really delicious.

naswm · 25/09/2006 11:23

Are there any issues re leaving it on all that time btw? Eg is it ok to keep heating it for so long? it wont grow bacteria or other nasties???

sandyballs · 25/09/2006 13:01

No, it's fine. That's what it is meant for.

naswm · 25/09/2006 13:10

thanks sandyballs!

lamb shanks are fab cooked in the slow cooker!

TinyGang · 28/09/2006 09:42

I want to get one too - we all love casserole type dinners.

Does anyone know what is the largest size you can get? There's 5 of us.

Stiglet · 28/09/2006 09:48

I think 6.5l is one of the biggest, I have one you could easily feed 5 with it!

TinyGang · 28/09/2006 10:06

Thank you Stiglet Sounds like just the size for us.
