Gluten free meal?

Hi,

I'm cooking for friends on Saturday night and one has just told me she has a gluten free diet. I was planning to do sausages, with potato dauphinoise and veg.
The potatoes and veg are ok aren't they - the potatoes were just going to be potatoes, garlic, seasoning, cream and cheese.
Are sausages ok, I'm thinking maybe not?
What could I do as an alternative, just meat rather than processed stuff?

I was going to do a chocolate cake and a cheesecake for pud, that's a big no no! Any pudding suggestions.

Thanks

There are lots of gluten free sausages you can get now, just check the labels. I think Black Farmer are one brand (and I think they're nice).

Am going to be doing some vegan cooking later this week and thinking of making it gluten-free so I can cater for all in one fell swoop. However, I'm making cakes, not meals.

I'm a veggie so not an authority on sausages, but you may need to check the packaging to make sure they're not 'bulked out' with rusk or anything wheaty. The potatoes sound lovely :)

Cheesecake you could possibly get away with - you could perhaps make a base with nuts & dates blended to make a 'pastry' instead of crumbs? Or get some gluten-free biscuits?

Chocolate pots rather than chocolate cake? Or switch out flour for polenta in the cake (you may need to add some extra raising agents)?

You can get gluten-free sausages - shouldn't be a problem in any large supermarket.

You could make your normal cheesecake and bake a single portion without the base for gluten-free. Or else stuff like Eton Mess, ice cream, chocolate mousse (made with just chocolate, butter, eggs, sugar), anything meringue-based without pastry like roulade etc.

Great stuff, I didn't realise gluten free sausages would be so easy to get.

Easy choice for pud too, can't decide on chocolate pots or eton mess, both are favourites.

Thanks a lot

How about grilled fish or chicken rather than sausages? Dessert could be quite a lot of things, really. Meringues, mousses, ice-cream, fresh fruit, fruit fools.

I didn't know if chicken would be a bit bland with the potatoes, as they will be quite rich? I've bought herby sausages, I supoose I could make the chicken quite herby too?

Herbs, or some kind of spicy rub like Cajun.

Asda GF sausages are nice.

careful with grated cheese as that's sometimes coated with flour (to stop it stick together)
