Dh wants to know why can't you give babies under 12 mths honey. I don't know but I said I know a woman who does. So why not???

risk of infant botulism

spores are an inert form of a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum which are present in the soil, honey is not treated in any way to kill the spores so if you were to ingest the spores they start to grow in the body and produce a toxin, in babies this can cause infant botulism which can be fatal

it's very very rare and usually only occurs in deveoping countries where it is normal to give young babies honey
