Anyone made marrow rum?

That's it really. Is it worth it? Is it lush?

My best friend tried it. It, er, spectacularly didn't work...

Is that the one where you chop the top off, fill it with sugar (and presumably some yeast) then leave it for a bit?

Haven't tried it, but am intrigued as marrow jam was surprisingly nice.

I've thought about trying this but I read somewhere about someone having an invasion of fruit flies while it was fermenting. We tend to be plagued by them anyway so didn't fancy the idea of encouraging them!

It fermented in a huge way one night and exploded all over the utility room. Slimy, yeasty-smelling, sticky marrow pulpage EVERYWHERE

Doris - the fruit flies will probably just hang out in the garage, depends whether you consider that a problem or not!

Mrspremise Glad I haven't tried it now! We did have exploding nettle beer one year which was quite impressive. The plastic bottle it was in peeled open like an exotic flower.

I'm going to give it a go this weekend, I have a spectacular marrow growing and am at loss of something else to do with it. Will report back on the success or otherwise!
