ideas for multi-tasking birthday cake/dessert

Hi,
I would like any recipe recommendations for something that can act as both a birthday cake (suitable for an adult and a 3 year old to share as they have the same birthday) and a dessert for a sunday lunch dinner party. Has to be quick and easy and must be able to support candles!

Maybe a Victoria sponge for the adult and surround it with lots of little cup cakes for the child?

We made it into a dinosaur shape and used blue icing for DS's 2nd birthday.
