Keeping champagne fizzy?

I have heard if you put a spoon in the neck of the bottle it keeps the fizz inside, does this actually work?
I need to open a bottle to use in the dessert I'm making but it seems wasteful for 3/4 of it to go flat. We will probably drink it around 4 hours afterwards.

It seems to work well enough for a day anyway. 4 hours will be fine.

just buy lambrini instead?

Haha, good plan Gingerbear!

I'll try it, and if it looks like it's going flat, I may aswell drink the damn thing
My dad has insisted a spoon is better than using a wine stopper, and I trust him to know.
