Easy Sunday lunch for a crowd

I know this has been done before, but I am uninspired by what I've seen on some other threads.

Birthday lunch (3 birthdays) , 7 adults, 2 kids and a toddler. Older kids are v picky. Will do crisps, dips, olives etc in lieu of starter, and cake for pudding.

I don't want to be trapped in the kitchen

Maybe I should finish that post....

I don't mind a lot of prep, but not a lot of cooking a la minute. Not a roast, not chicken, not a buffet. It should feel a bit special.

Ideas gratefully received.

In situations like these I tend to go for something that can be made in advance then popped in the oven when the guests arrive. Lasagne/cannelloni or similar pasta with garlic bread and salad always seems to go down well, as does boeuf bourgignon with dauphinois potatoes or these beef olives. Curries are also good for prepping in advance. Thai chicken curry is pretty easy as is beef renang.

I agree re lasagna or similar. Or a very nice casserole / bake. If you want it to be "special" find a recipe that's a little unusual for you eg a morrocan tangine.
