Do I want a dehydrator?

We have 2 plum trees collapsing under the weight of fruit.

DC and I experimented with making fruit leather at the weekend. It is yummy, but has taken for bloody ever in the oven. I have been googling dehydrators. So, when the DC tire of homemade plum leather, what else could I do with it which would justify it's existence?

(Or would it be a complete waste of money?)

We've often thought about getting one too, as dp loves dried fruit but the ones with sulphites really make him itch. I assume you could do most fruit, and tomatoes as well.
Would love to hear from someone who has one.

That's disappointing, Alpaca. That's not the model I was looking at, but it's similar.

If I had one I'd make kale, beet root, sweet potato crisps.
And nut/seed based spiced or sweet crackers, oat thins etc....
Maybe even attempt jerky type dried meat

We have one (present from mum). It's been used once, took ages and didn't seem to work brilliantly. I wouldn't bother.
