I had tea at the Wolseley (sp?) a few weeks ago for a friend's birthday and it was not only wonderful (finger sandwiches, scones, tiny cakes0 but £18.95 a head.

how about somewhere local - Petersham Hotel?

wheelybug · 20/09/2006 14:56

OOh I love afternoon tea.

My parents went to the savoy and had a good time, think its a bit cheaper. Have done the ritz but a bit touristy.... Had a nice one at Alexander House hotel (think thats what its called near gatwick) - not sure how much that one was though but suspect cheaper...

CountessDracula · 20/09/2006 14:56

last time I went to the Petersham I thought it was grim - was a few years ago though, have you been recently?

the wolseley is great - not had tea there, only dinner but a lovely building (and the food and wine was good too !).

MarsLady · 20/09/2006 14:57

Fortnum and Mason's. They do a lovely cream tea. I'm taking my bf there for her 40th.

Ooh and where did I go when I was pregnant with DS1? I keep wanting to say Selfridges... lol... but it wasn't there! Very posh London hotel! Oh I'll remember whilst on the school run. It was lovely. In fact we went there for breakfast! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

suejoneziscalmernow · 20/09/2006 14:57

no haven't been but read something about them recently. Ladies of St Annes on Kew green do a nice piece of cake and a sandwich for about £5 but only in summer months I'm afriad.

suejoneziscalmernow · 20/09/2006 14:58

Richmond gate Hotel (the one closer to the Aprk of the two)?

wheelybug · 20/09/2006 14:58

don't know if One Aldwych do tea - if they did it in the Lobby bar that would be fab...

CountessDracula · 20/09/2006 15:01

Hmm last time I went to the Savoy the sandwiches were curling at the edges, I was not impressed!

I like the meridien - not so traditional and don;t know if they'd cope with large party but their tea always used to be fab.

MarsLady · 20/09/2006 15:03

The Savoy! Thanks CD... still that was 14 years ago... maybe standards have slipped somewhat? lol

CountessDracula · 20/09/2006 15:04

It was 1989 though

Not been back since!

suzywong · 20/09/2006 16:24

That sounds like fun
are you certain you couldn't fit in a swift one in Soho before hand

I once sat next to Terry Gilliam in the GPs' surgery in HIghgate, he was waving around the most pea green sample pot of pee in an unneccesarily manner.

CountessDracula · 20/09/2006 16:29

Hmm could try I guess what time are you meeting?

I will have dh with me though!

OP posts:
bundle · 20/09/2006 16:30

i've been to the marylebone thingummy hotel (nr br stn) it had palm trees inside and everything

suzywong · 20/09/2006 16:31

you could make the effort yes

I think it's going to be 1pm and I think it's eithe roging to be Pierre CVictoire or All bar one in Frith or do I mean Greek or Dean street, it's been a long time

No one else is helping out with the venue so dont' blame me if it's shite

mythumbelinas · 20/09/2006 16:33

sorry to interrupt, bundle i think you mean landmark hotel.
