Quick ways to ripen avocado please

I once read somewhere that there is a way to ripen avocados quickly - anyone know it?

stick it in a bowl with a ripe banana

but it's not instant

bp - I'm pleased that you said that - I have 2 avacados hob-nobbing with a bunch of bananas as we speak - I hope it works
