I'm looking for something I can cook brown rice in (among other things), and happened across this Tefal 8-in-1 whilst googling... It has great reviews, and is discounted at the moment, but I wanted to canvass Mumsnet's expert opinions if any of you own it - what it's good/bad at, capacity, etc. Thanks guys!

I bought this as a gift for my brother and he raves about it - particularly for cooking rice and porridge. Not sure what other stuff he uses it for but definitely a good buy.

Where have you seen it discounted, please?

Just re read the Argos reviews for this....people were saying that the timer function doesn't work with the slow cooker function. That's me out then.

Selks - it's reduced on Amazon by £15 at the moment, but whilst trawling thru the reviews I have come across something called the Instant Pot which is a combined pressure/slow/rice cooker & steamer and a few other things.

it has amazing reviews but is twice the price of the Tefal.

Thanks, couldbeanyone :-)

I have it and use it often. I had the older model and that was far better though and easier to use as well as quicker to cook rice. It makes perfect rice every time with very little effort and can steam at the same time. I've never gotten on very well with the slow cooking function but have realised it's because I add too much liquid so looking forward to trying that again. We mainly use it as a rice maker and steamer.

Sharond, do you know if the porridge setting with the Tefal can be used with the delay timer? Would very much like to know that.

sharond101 · 25/08/2014 22:26

Selks yes you can use the delay timer with porridge according to the instruction manual which you can download from here, www.tefal.co.uk/en/Cooking-appliances/Rice-%26-Multi-cookers/Tefal-8-in-1-Multi-Cooker/p/7211000750
