I've found there seems to be several ways of making shortcrust pastry. This is one I followed for making lemon meringue pie and was really nice.
8 ozs plain flour
1 oz icing sugar
4 oz chilled butter, cut into cubes
1 egg yolk
2 tbsp cold water

Sift the flour and icing sugar into a bowl. Add butter and rub in until resembles breadcrumbs. Mix in the egg yolk and enough cold water to make a soft dough. Wrap in cling film and chill in fridge for 30 minutes.
Roll out dough on a lightly floured surface.

Guess for savoury pastry, leave out the icing sugar!

  1. Go to shop
  2. Purchase pack of Jus-Rol Shortcrust pastry
  3. Make jam tarts
  4. Hide Jus-Rol pastry wrapper in bottom of bin
  5. Look smug whenpeople tell you how gorgeous they are
