Help me to slow cook my gammon please

Due to an online shopping error I have ended up with a 1kg gammon joint instead of the steaks I thought I was ordering (I'm not sure what happened, I asked for 2 portions at £1.25 each from the meat counter, assuming at that price they were steaks and I ended up with 2 £9 joints Hmm). Anyway, I thought I'd make use of my slow cooker but I've never put a joint in it before so any tips? Should I soak it first? High, medium or low and for how long? Dry or with water? (I don't have any cola or cider but I do have apple juice, sugar and honey).

I should add that I'm vegi so I won't be trying it as it cooks Grin

Thank you Smile

I just put it in the slow cooker on low and leave it for 8/10 hours. Throw a cup of apple juice in, the gammon joint will produce liquid as well.

I boil mine in saucepan for about 5 minutes. Discard the water.
Then put in slow cooker with fresh boiled water.
Put on low and leave for the day.
Perfect every time.

Thanks, sounds simple enough. Do you turn it at all?

Apple juice, cinnamon and cloves. At the end I pop some of the juice from the slow cooker in a pot on the stove with corn flour to thicken.

I turn it half way.

Make a pile of dark brown sugar in the slow cooker, cup of apple juice poured over, put gammon joint on top. On high for an hour or so, them on low for 8 hrs or so.

Can make a nice sauce with the juices/sugar/apple mixture at the end. Plus a bit of Worcester sauce.

Don't try to slice the gammon....pull it apart into shreds with two forks...yummy.

Thanks for the tips Smile

It's in - I've boiled it for 5 minutes and put it in the SC on low for the day. I'll report back later...

It's the easiest way to make a joint I find. I enjoy not having to do much with it haha.
