Baking Virgin - what cakes for DT's 2nd birthday?

My twins will turn 2 in December and we live in a country where very limited baking supplies are available, so I would like to stock up on everything I will need while I'm here in England on holiday!

I'm a baking novice - I did a fair bit as a kid and a teen and allegedly was quite good at it, but I haven't baked bow for years and I am nervous about making their birthday cake(s)!

Should I go and raid Lakeland for some moulds or something? Will I need to do icing? If so, what kit and ingredients should I stock up on? Are there any good books or websites so I can see which cake to make?

I don't know what theme to go for really; one twin is obsessed with anything with wheels, the other likes animals and they both adore Peppa Pig!

Any ideas and suggestions most gratefully received!

If they both love Peppa Pig, I'd stick to Peppa Pig. For my DT third birthday I remember making a chocolate cake, it wasn't too big as the children have smaller slices compared to the bigger sizes nine and seven year olds eat. Victoria sponge or chocolate cake is easiest. I've made rainbow cake before and that was hassle with all the different food colouring. They're only little so whatever they think tastes nice.
