Thanks

My dp highly recommends ottolenghi's plenty. He's see another book of his and is not so keen, but he's made quite a few things from that one and has always been impressed.

I must admit some of the things he's made are pretty good, even though I would not have fancied them if i'd just seen them written down and not had them there to eat.

Ottolenghi's Jerusalem is excellent. Claudia Roden's book of Middle Eastern Food is the original collection of all the basic recipes. Those two should keep you busy for a while.

Claudia Roden's Book of Middle Eastern Food - the original and still the best.

I love her Book of Jewish Food - most of which covers Middle Eastern food. It's full of stories about the communities that made the food, you can practically read it as a history book as well as a cookbook.

If you need pictures Arabesque is lovely - she does Moroccan, Turkish and Lebanese food. So far every recipe is a winner.

As you can see I love Claudia! She has such love for food and the stories of the people who made it. She also encourages you to go your own way and tinker with the recipes rather than needing to stick rigidly to a long list of ingredients. I haven't made a bad recipe from any of her books yet.

There are lots of other authors but she is the original inspiration of them all.

A few good ideas here.

Agree re Claudia Roden. Tamarind and Saffron has lots of lovely but easy recipes

Claudia Roden here too, also THe Moro Cookbook (www.amazon.co.uk/Moro-Cookbook-Samuel-Clark/dp/009188084X) and Yotam Ottolenghi, search for his recipes on the Guardian; some of his ingredients are pretty obscure though.
