Have a recipe for sour cream, Have none in - unusually- and village shop just had double or whipping. Would either of those do instead?

Can't you just add lemon juice to ordinary cream? I think that'll do the trick!

Sure I read that if you add some lemon juice to single cream and leave it at room temp for 15 mins it goes like sour cream

Oh right, i'll try that then, knowing my luck it will curdle
