Can anyone recommend some top buys for white wine in either Aldi or Lidl please? Am going to have to get a few bottles in for a big BBQ and would like to avoid buying bad choices! Many thanks in advance! :)

the aldi prosecco is lovely. £7.99 a bottle I think

I don't have any answers I'm afraid but I was wondering the same thing myself. I've started shopping at Lidl quite regularly but haven't a clue about their wine. I shall be watching with interest!

I had to buy a lot of wine for a charity thing.

A lot of winners have approached me about the wine, asking where I got it as it is so nice.

It was the cheapest wine in Aldi, £3.09 a bottle - called Bianco or similar.

I tried it tonight after all the comments - it is nicer than most white wine I have tasted recently.

The Bordeaux from Aldi is beautiful. It used to be under £4 a bottle but it's now around £4.50

Lidl - Cimarosa Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough New Zealand about £5.88 really nice.

I had Aldi's £3.99 Pinot Grigio the other day and it was lovely

The Aldi Albarinho is gorgeous but probably not one to buy for a party, it's about £5-6 a bottle I think.

I can only drink pinot. I find all other whites too vinegary.

Aldi do a lovely pinot. But tesco simply is nice too at 4.99.

I had an italian white from Aldi as a work present from Dh's company, I thought it would be awful but as a everyday glugging wine it was great.

It's called vino blanco & it's £3sh.

This one

Aldi had a lovely sparking Chardonnay at Christmas. It had a black label and was £7.29, it was yum.
Also if you like oaky Chardonnay they had a good one in for £6.99.
I like the Semillion Sauvignon for 4.99 as well

Aldi Cremant du Jura (sparkling dry French white) is lovely - much nicer than most of the cheaper Champagnes. Perfect for a party.

I like the Limoux - it's quite fruity and slightly oaky

The Clare Valley Riesling is fresh and fruity.

BuzzardBird · 14/01/2015 19:10

The Aldi Prosecco is nice, but the Lidl one is better (drier) and was on offer at £4.99 before Christmas. Think it is back up to £6.29 now.

Lidl wines are great (they won Supermarket Wine Merchants of the year or something)

Loads of great wines in Aldi too. To be honest, I have never bought an undrinkable one from either. I usually look for the shelf that has been raided.

I like this Cava.

I agree with Munchkin, Lidl Cimarosa is lovely. A New Zealand Marlborough a Estate Sauvignon Blanc for £5.50ish that tastes lovely. Just make sure it's super chilled. :)

Lidl and Aldi are great. The Exquisite Collection Hunter Valley Semillon from Aldi is perfect - it is just 11% alcohol so great for day time drinking and is really bright, fresh and citrusy - if you like Sauvignon Blanc you will like this! think it is £6.99
Try the wotwine? app. It's free and you just scan the bar code and it tells you if it is a good wine and worth the money. or you can search by supermarket/grape/price. all the wines are tasted by professionals (masters of wine etc) so it is really good advise. Its also lots of fun scanning all the wines and getting the truth behind the marketing!!!
