A cake with real curtains

Is it possible to make a cake with real curtains that you can draw back to reveal the decoration on top? How would I go about it? I am thinking fondant icing or something. Any other ideas? I have a reason for this crazy idea - it's long though so will tell in a bit.

Fondant won't work if you want them to move as once they dry out they would crack. How about wafer paper?

would it be fabricky enough though? If that is a word...

Could you use dowels to support and some lightweight fabric strung on waxed string?

scattercushion just occurred to me yesterday that you could possibly use cake lace?
