Pulled pork in slow cooker

I've mainly used the slow cooker for curries previously but wanted to try something different tomorrow so I've bought a pork shoulder which is about 1.7kg (without a bone in it) and wanted to try pulled pork.

I've found a recipe but it says to cut the pork in two which sounded a bit strange. Do you normally have to cut pork up in the slow cooker?

Recipe I was thinking of trying:

I don't. I just throw it in with a little water.

I've used that recipe lots of times.

This is what she says

"Sara it helps with cooking time and also allows more surface area to be covered with the paste. I think it would still totally work if you didn’t want to cut it though."

That was a reply in the comments section when someone else asked the same.

I never cut mine in half though.

Cheers for the replies - I did start reading through the comments but only made it through the first 3 pages (there were 35 I think!)

If you've made that recipe loads of times 0dd sounds like it must be a success? Wink it looked quite a nice simple recipe when I saw it. I've got some sweet potato to make into wedges and going to make coleslaw as well. Hopefully we'll all like it as DH is not convinced with cooking in the slow cooker really (apart from curry) as he hated chorizo and chicken thighs.

Forgot to come and update - pulled pork was a success! DH loved it (& ate it 2 nights running). I cooked it for about 12 hours in total and it just fell apart - lovely and tasty.

I really want some now, glad you enjoyed yours. Grin

I always put mine back in after shredding it so it soaks up the juices. Yum. DH doesn't like that as it makes it spicier, the wuss. I usually add a teaspoon of chilli powder to the mix too.

Off to check if pork is on offer anywhere...

I always add a tbsp of this
