Getting together with 3 old school friends that I haven't seen in a very long time. Want to do something special but that i can do a lot of preparation in advance. Not really done a proper dinner party before but do entertain my family a lot but that tends to be simple things like roast dinners or casseroles. Can someone help me suggest a menu please. It mustn't include anything with egg or nuts in.

What's the point of posting a question asking for help, and then buggering orf?

Sorry you are quite right. Crisis with friend having to go hospital. I think more kitchen supper but look like I have made a bit of an effort.

Jamie Oliver has a really nice recipe for chicken and leek pie I can recommend.
Or you could get some really good steak and make your own chips.

My default kitchen supper though is either pork and cabbage meat balls and pasta, of a home made quiche.

Eton mess for pud - strawberries are at their best right now. Or a fruit salad with all red fruit.

Hope friend is OK

Nigella has a lovely seafood/pumpkin Thai curry that you basically can make ahead but tastes delicious. Has prawns, salmon and butternut squash or pumpkin in.

Or I am always recommending her chicken and chorizo tray bake - again prepare ahead and delicious. Can post links to recipes for either if you are interested.

Dessert: cheesecake is easy to make ahead...?

Nigella also does a really peasy but dead impressive duck breast with potatos...serve with a really good green salad, I would do watercress salad with a honey and mustard dressing.
