Birthday cake help needed quickly!

Having a cake/bake related issue!

I need a new recipie for a birthday sponge cake that will hold it's shape for icing (fondant) and stacking (two tier cake).

Have two 23cm tins. My recipie recommends:

675g SR flour
450g butter
450g caster sugar
8 large eggs
2 1/4 tbsp veg oil
2 1/4 tbsp vanilla extract.

It seems way too much and based on the top tier I've done based on quantities given for 20cm tins - they have risen too much.

Please help, I need to bake tonight ready for icing tomorrow!

Vanilla great, chocolate cake even better (I have dark choc and hot choc powder).

Thank you in advance.

I have just looked in my new baking book. For a single 23cm chocolate cake it recommends

275g SR flour
10 eggs Shock
175g caster sugar
275g butter
425g plain chocolate
70g icing sugar

Thank you! I've gone with the recipie as I didn't want to be up all night but my recipie is for 2 x 23cm tins so maybe not that far off but that would mean 20 eggs in your book!

Will keep my fingers crossed!

I know, I'm horrified! I do the egg weighing method usually but I've no idea how to convert it to pan sizes.
