Semi-sweet chocolate chips... ??

I found the most delicious recipe for choc chip scones and they call for "semi-sweet chocolate chips. It's an American recipe.

I made it today with normal chocolate chips and while the texture was delicious, the choc chips definitely came across as too sweet, so despite not knowing what the semi-sweet thing is all about, I can see why it might work.

What are they and where can you get them in the UK? Anyone?
