Help! Freezer problem!

Hi, my husband has just told me that the freezer switched itself off yesterday. He noticed before he went to bed and got it back on. Apparently some of the food had semi defrosted - he threw the worst away but kept most of it. Will it be safe to eat? Please say it is, there is so much food in it I couldn't bear to throw it away!

I'm sure everything in the vegetable / potato / bread category would be fine.

It's the meat I would be wary about. Especially chicken. Personally I wouldn't want to throw it out though, I'd just make damn sure that it was cooked extra thoroughly when using it. And watch out for any weird smells.
