Piles and piles of slightly sour tasting windfall apples, kids want a crumble and I thought I'd cook the apples, make a wee crumble for them and then freeze the rest of the cooked apple mixture.

How do I cook the apples?

Sorry - you want to cook them.

Peel and core them then slice them into a pan which has water just covering the bottom add half a cup of sugar. Boil for about 10 mins - taste, if you like it sweeter add abit more sugar. if not hey presto!

I make my crumble with half oats and half flour - also a Delia idea! It's beautifully crunchy.

That sounds yummy - just porridge oats and plain flour? Bugger & sugar?

No , it has sugar & butter too! Brown sugar by the way.
4oz flour (pref wholewheat),4oz porridge oats
5 oz soft brown sugar
3 oz butter
1 level tsp baking powder.
If it's apple crumble I add a pinch of cinnamon too.

Thanks - did mean to put butter, not bugger
