Best and worst kitchen gadget?

pregnantpause · 24/05/2014 20:31

Listening to the radio this morning, where they were discussing their favourite gadgets and their most unused gadget in the kitchen. ( was a food related show)

One named a garlic crusher as his most uselessShock I love mine! ( a knife and stick blender came out as the favourites)

My favourite gadget is my food processor- when I bought it I thought it was frivolous and wouldn't be used- pah! It's in constant use!

My most useless and as such chucked was a potato ricer- messy and ineffective, not to mention the washing difficulties!

I'm just curious what are your favourite and least favourite kitchen gadgets( not least because my birthday is soon and I may shortlist a 'favourite' or two Wink)

A perfect potato peeler is my favourite nothing drives me mad quicker than rubbish peeler.

Least favourite is the grill pan (not really a gadget, but hey). I seem to be constantly using it i hate hate hate cleaning the bugger.

Favourite is rice maker, easy and perfect rice every time. Also can be used as a slow cooker or steamer.

Least favourite is toaster. Hate toast from the toaster, far better from the grill.

My favourite is an onion chopper we bought recently after seeing Liberace use one in a documentary. It has a pot, blade and pull handle. Brilliant and no more tears.

Least fave is a grater with its own pot as it goes everywhere anyway.

My favourites: table top mixer - I bake a lot. Least favourite - smoothie maker. It's gathering dust in the larder. Too much faff!

Best - microplane grater for Parmesan, no other is as good

Worst - expensive Kitchenaid liquidiser. Looks pretty but haven't used it in years, far too hard to clean. Far easier to liquidise stuff with a cheap stick blender.

Favourite is a heavy two-handled Rachand lemon-squeezer that I bought in New Zealand

Worst one is a big round flat spoon thing with holes in it. Think it's meant to be a skimmer but have never found any use for it

The worst kitchen instrument is the one that takes up the most real estate.
Also saucepans, plastic containers etc.

Oh, I love my potato ricer, we use it loads Smile Also a cheese slicer that is hard to describe but is a bit like a peeler but with cheese wire.
Least favourite probably the steamer, we gave it away in the end. Also some herb chopper thing that someone bought us as a present, that was useless.

I have a cheese wire thingy- love it, it was a gift and again I thought where the f* am I to store this thing! Use it all the time and if it broke I would replace it. Shock
