...before adding to the slowcooker.

Is my Chicken Teriyaki meal ruined?

Sad

I never wash rice!

QueenOfThorns · 22/05/2014 15:17

Nah, DH never washes rice. Doesn't seem to make a difference!

TrinityRhino · 22/05/2014 15:17

I didn't realise you had to wash rice

sorry but at least I've bumped it Grin

HolidayCriminal · 22/05/2014 15:19

You only wash it in case it's dirty (& packaged supermarket quality rice rarely is).

KoalaFace · 22/05/2014 16:02

Oh thank god!

I have some massive blind spots when it comes to cooking!

Thank you!

Was it basmati or nasty old long-grain?

LettertoHerms · 22/05/2014 17:53

You're supposed to wash rice?

Oops.

KoalaFace · 22/05/2014 18:40

It was basmati. It tasted fine, if a little...al dente. But that's because I should have put more liquid in the slowcooker.

Tonight's meal was a bit of a disaster all around really...

Never wash rice either.

Lunaballoon · 23/05/2014 17:48

Rinsing is supposed to get rid of some of the excess starch. But it doesn't make much difference IMO.

Nocomet · 23/05/2014 18:12

Yes it's supposed to make it less sticky, but I always do rice in lots of water and drain, rather than the fancy to dryness way. So it doesn't matter. It certainly won't matter in your slow cooker dish.

If you don't mind dirtying a pan chucking it on the stove with extra boiling water and bubbling for a few minutes solves the refusing to cook problem.
