Hello all, I am making flapjacks for a school bake sale but can't get Golden Syrup here. Would honey be an acceptable substitute or would it burn? Or maybe I should just make something else. TIA

Just miss it out - golden syrup not an essential ingredient - may need a little more butter to replace it.

Make them with some flour in - more of an oaty cake thing but no need for golden syrup. Can also add some stewed fruit and spices to the mixture.

Holland, Twiglett. Honey very big but no syrup! Will try Jaybee's suggestion and let you know!

Corn syrup?

How about Plum & Cinammon oat slices instead? They're like flapjacks but without golden syrup (can't do links)

oxocube,

No syrup needed. Flapjacks will just be crumblier without...yummy. o

Could you use maple syrup instead or is that hard to find too ?

oxocube · 24/03/2004 14:32

Maple syrup is no problem. In fact, I have some in the cupboard for pancakes. May try both ways - with extra butter and maple syrup- a good excuse to scoff, don't you think?

I made Delia's oat and cinammon things for ds's 1st birthday. I'm a hopeless cook especially of cakey things but they were lovely. Did need to use loads more butter than she said to get them to stick together though - a scary arterial experience

we make flaptjack with oats, sugar and butter - no golden syrup. It is fine like that and very popular - never lasts very long !
