I would really like to make my ds's 1st birthday cake. Only prob is it will be my first ever birthday cake! But I've got to start somewhere right and will have a practice go so I can eat more cake
I've seen the number 1 cake tins, how easy are these to use (remove cake from) and decorate? If I used a sheet of possibly ready made fondant icing are they easy enough to put round edges or should I stick to a round cake tin? Any tips very gratefully received

Always roll out fondant thick at least quarter of an inch, you wont get any rips or anything then.

Well done on your cake, it really is a learning curve.

For the star cutter you can buy them in a pack of 3 all sizes in places like the Range.

How long should the cake last? If I made the cake one night, then fondant then next should I crumb coat on the first night? Then kept in cake tin should it be ok for a couple of days? Say bake thurs, fondant fri, eat sat?

Good grief yes a fondant covered cake keeps for days as its sealed, I make my cakes 3 days ahead, I'm making one for Tuesday, so will cook it on Sunday, decorate Mon to eat Tuesday.

Excellent. Just need to find a big enough tin, more blue gel then we're good to go!
