Biscuits for shape cutting?

Can anyone a recipe for biscuits that would hold their shape when cooked? We've been gifted a large number of animal cutters but my usual shortbread or cookie recipe doesn't work as the biscuits spread and rise a bit. Then my shapes look a bit deformed!
Any ideas what we can use?

I usually just use the 1:2:3 recipe

1oz sugar
2oz butter
3 oz flour

They cut well but aren't terribly exciting.

(Waits for someone cleverer to come along)

There is a recipe specifically for cut out biscuits in Nigella's Domestic Goddess book. I think it might be called Birthday Biscuits or something similar.

Yes the nigella one or Annabel karmel has one that's orange and choc chips that I have used and is very nice.

add more flour to the mix to make it firmer and roll the dough a bit thinner before cutting the shapes and place onto a hot baking tray and straight into the oven (worked for mine)

That isn't the right link but on that blog is the Annabel karmel recipe for orange and choc chip biscuits.

Thank you ladies. Will give them a go this afternoon. Hopefully I can prevent a repeat of Easters 'but that isn't a rabbit' tantrum!
