malory's broad bean club - a warning

last night, as i was making a rather delicious broad ben risotto, i cleared the broad bean pods into my waste disposal unit and switched it on. minutes later, i had a blocked sink, blocked overflow, water everywhere and stuff backing into the dishwasher.

turns out that whatever broad bean pods are made of, they can't be chopped up by a waste disposal. it was like fibreglass or something, unbelievable, and destructive...

so be careful, our yummy green chums hide a terrible secret.

Waste disposal unit? They still make those? COMPOST them!

no garden. rubbish picked up off street once a week and has to stay in our small flat until it goes out onto the street so we absolutely need to minimise smelly things that go into the bin. also packaging, which has an ecological upside.
it will all change when we move house, worry not. oooooh, i'd love a garden with a hot, steamy compost heap. and wriggly worms... my dad had worms in his, when they didn't escape that is.
