I would love to start baking with my daughter but I'm wondering if 19 months is a bit young for her ? And if not what little things can I get her to do to help? Grin

I bake with my 17mo all the time. We mix the ingredients, she pours the ingredients into the bowl (flour etc), then she likes to watch the buns baking in the oven. She does lose interest quite quickly - so have only ever done brownies/cookies/fairy cakes. It's loads of fun (though a little bit messy!!)

I bake with 18 mo DD. I get measure everything out first, then she tips each ingredient into the mixing bowl as needed. She helps mix. She can drizzle icing from a spoon onto biscuits or fairy cakes and scatter sprinkles. She also "helps" with the washing up

I started baking with DS at about that age. We did a lot of biscuits as he liked playing with the dough, cutting out shapes and sticking his fingers in it - just choose a recipe without egg so that it doesn't matter if they eat it raw ( which they will).

I found it easiest to put a tea towel/tray on the floor and we'd do it kneeling on the floor. At that age it was easier than trying to do it at the table as it all ended up getting knocked on the floor that way. DS would get involved in the weighing/adding ingredients and then mixing them up in a bowl, and then forming biscuit shapes on a tray. He loved it!

I started with shortbread (as stated above as it is egg free). Best advice I can give is to make sure you have everything out and to hand before you start, get your DD a little apron first, and embrace the mess :)

Go for it, as long as you can find a big enough cake tin Grin

sorry couldn't help myself
