Baked beans and kidney bean

baked beans in my last pregnancy brought on contractions![:o] I had to stop eating them after a couple of early meals!! Although I did vow to my dh that if I got to my due date I would eat a massive plate of beans on toast (which I didn't need to do in the end when dd arrived 4 days early ,Grin

Now I've made a girl called Jack's 9p kidney beans burgers for dinner today, but now I'm too scared to try them as I'm 16w pregnant! I know there's only one way to know, but thought I'd tap into the expertise of MNers first!

Cross posted in pregnancy too

Are you sure it wasn't wind?

lighteningmcmama · 02/05/2014 16:12

Perhaps it was but in extreme that can lead to contracting like pains, that's why castor oil used to be recommended as a way to bring on Labour!

Do you normally eat pulses?

lighteningmcmama · 02/05/2014 18:40

Yes sometimes

Just checking that you hadn't suddenly converted to a high fibre diet. Digestive problems (heartburn for example) can be a feature of pregnancy so, if pulses are specifically causing you pain, suggest you do the obvious thing and don't eat them.

Ah ok. Well, I had them and they were ok, not the best veggie burgers I've had though if I really were living off £10 per week for food then I can imagine they'd be a lovely staple! But most importantly, my tummy and bump is ok :) so it's just baked beans to avoid till October then...

Baked brand are made with haricot beans so are different or more fibrous than kidney beans. They are also laden with sugar and salt which could affect contractions; as could high fibre if not used to it. Glad you were fine! You can make your own baked beans if you get a craving :)

Beans not brand!
