Icing for fairy cakes

I would like a simple yet tasty method where the icing actually tastes of something apart from sugar and isn't anything like the thick stuff used to cover christmas cake (yuk). Is it purely a case of adding lemon or orange juice to the water and icing sugar mix?

Please advise

TIA

Yes you can add fruit juice. I've also used a nice sweet rose wine before and my friends loved them, though they'd probably like anything I said had wine in :)

Lemon is the nicest I find.

No need to add any water at all to the icing sugar, just juice will give a stronger flavour.

Or you could use coffee.

Or do a flavoured cream cheese with a bit of icibg sugar icing.

Or melt chocolate. Mmm.

Cream cheese frostings are really good - not too sweet & have a nice tangy flavour. I really like lemon cream cheese frosting on a plain vanilla sponge. Yum!

Lots of good ideas here to try out, thank you!
