Morning folks,

A quick heads-up. Some of you (particularly those of you who put in the hours testing the recipes Grin) may recall that we've been working on a Mumsnet cook book of your favourite, foolproof family recipes for some time now.

Well it's being published by Bloomsbury on Thursday 8th June and you can buy a copy of it over on Amazon.

Thanks again for all your help with the book - it literally (and we mean that literally) wouldn't exist without you. And if you're after a warm glow, check out what no less a kitchen superstar than Yotam Ottolenghi had to say about it:

"Family recipes - tried and tested... and tested... and tested - win hands down in any tasting competition I have ever attended. This book is an ultimate collection of such winners: reliable, useful and, most importantly, completely delicious."

ANOTHER UPDATE: We've added another video of the lovely RebeccaMumsnet demo-ing which we ate and was utterly delish.

UPDATE: We got the lovely RebeccaMumsnet to try her hand at the - see the (rather good) results for yourself...

The Mumsnet family cookbook is now out!

@catsareeasier

So - totally off topic, but just nosey: is RebeccaMumsnet in her own kitchen on YouTube? Or whose little dog is looking plaintively in through the kitchen door of the same kitchen while Anjum Anand makes scrummy tarka dhal?? (about 45 seconds in!).

Ok so I admit it's my kitchen and that's Kasper peeking through the window - he is cute, isn't he? [proud].

And if you can't review the book on Amazon, do pop on over to our Reviews section and review it there.

CatherineHMumsnet · 14/05/2014 15:46

Cantdothisagain - saw that. Thanks very much.

Mumof2cov - made the banana bread myself - turns out well doesn't it?

KateMumsnet · 15/05/2014 14:15

Psst - we've now added another video of the lovely RebeccaMumsnet ably demonstrating how to make the (rather delish) Cheat's Tandoori Chicken. Have a look! And do subscribe to our YouTube channel - lots of great foodie stuff - and other useful tips and how-tos - in the pipeline.

CatherineHMumsnet · 15/05/2014 14:18

ZipZap - they're already up. If you look to the left of the book cover there are thumbnails of spreads that you can click on.

KateMumsnet · 15/05/2014 21:53

Oh good lord JulesJules - a chocolate orange-stroke-sponge pudding?! I have the ingredients for that right now and I am SORELY tempted...

CatherineHMumsnet · 19/05/2014 13:59

TheSkiingGardener - thanks for that. Those one pot buns look very impressive.

And if anyone else feels minded to pop along to Amazon and review that'd be great too!

CatherineHMumsnet · 20/05/2014 17:57

Hi PoppyAmex - sorry to hear that you didn't like the look of the book. Have to say it was a conscious decision we made not to make the photographs look too stylised or unachievable. But hopefully the recipes will change your mind!

@LongStory

Thumbs up for the Lumberjack Stew. Had a crazy busy day on Saturday and knew I needed something easy for dinner, so popped this into the slow cooker before everything kicked off.

Five hours later, was just about to serve tea when an unexpected family turned up which made THIRTEEN of us. I won't say we were all full, but it certainly kept us going (with a bottle of wine).

Ace - am wondering what to try next... If you could find a moment to review on Amazon & Mumsnet at some point, we'd be eternally grateful.

CatherineHMumsnet · 26/05/2014 11:58

Anonymousbird - success on the school cake stall - that's the best challenge yet for one of our recipes!

TallRedhead - thanks. EVERY review on Amazon makes a real difference.

JustineMumsnet · 29/05/2014 20:48

Well I did "the vitamin injection" soup today - which I admit is not the catchiest title but it was delicious. (I used a packet of pre chopped squash and sweet potato so it was even easier).

Also made the Soda bread to go with it. Now that is an amazing recipe - can't believe I can make break with no yeast, kneading etc. (I would say I found it impossible to pick it up and make a ball - was too runny so I just dolloped it onto baking tray with a spoon - but that was possibly cos I used semi-skimmed not whole milk?)

CatherineHMumsnet · 03/06/2014 14:10

ShineSmile well it's on Amazon for £9 which is pretty good and presumably Tesco is stocking it at a competitive price too.

JustineMumsnet · 05/06/2014 13:52

Can report success with the Kleftiko yesterday - I had it on low in the slow cooker for 8 hours - think it would happily go for 10...

CatherineHMumsnet · 16/06/2014 13:44

ShineSmith - yes you have to use block margarine rather than a tub spread or it won't harden up.

SocialButterfly - we're going to get a full list of stockists from the publisher and will post it here as soon as we have it.

CatherineHMumsnet · 18/06/2014 15:11

FuriousDuckling/AnonymousBird - You're quite right and in our next book (of course you'll all have to keep reviewing the current one brilliantly on Amazon for that to happen) we'll definitely do that with any slow cooking recipes we feature.

CatherineHMumsnet · 18/06/2014 17:22

SocialButterfly - have just heard back from the publishers. You can buy it in Tescos, Sainsbury's, WH Smith and Waterstones. But if you can, always best to give the latter two a call to check it's in stock before you make the journey.

CatherineHMumsnet · 01/07/2014 15:41

ScienceRocks I won't be able to I'm afraid. Working out non-slow cooker instructions is something someone with greater culinary skills than I would need to do. And the USP of this book is how many times each recipe has been tested, so even if I was able to make an educated guess, that different method wouldn't have been tested out on the specific recipe.

But - if there's anyone reading this, that has the book and feels qualified to work out the timings themselves and test it, please do go ahead!
