I will try and remember to post my mum's recipe tonight, can't remember off hand but I know it includes flour, brown sugar and dessicated coconut

AvaLou · 23/08/2006 10:11

I use 2/3 digestive biscuits 1/3 ginger biscuits and really good quality butter.
It's lovely!

CountessDracula · 23/08/2006 10:12

I have had it made from crushed amaretti biscuits and it is lovely

AvaLou · 23/08/2006 10:12

I guess it could work as crumble
Interesting, I may try
I actually love to have that on top of greek yoghurt and autumn fruits, a really easy and delicious dessert.

Donbean · 23/08/2006 10:15

should i add some amaretti biscuits to the mix as well CD???

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 23/08/2006 10:15

i would add dessicated coconut

alligator · 23/08/2006 10:17

3 handfuls oats, 2 handfuls flour, 1 and a bit/2 handfuls of brown sugar, large knob of butter, cinnamon (or mixed spice or whatever else is in the cupboard). Rub butter into flour, add everything else. If feeling really lazy melt butter and stir into other ingredients .

Note: as this contains oats and fruit it makes a great breakfast and prob has less sugar than many cearels. Well tahts my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Please find that recipe CD sounds scrummy

Donbean · 23/08/2006 10:19

now that is my way of doing things..handfulls and Not measurements!!
Thanks alli

that makes quite a bit of crumble btw. Enough for 6 I reckon (normal people that is not crumbleaholics like me )

I think handfuls should be brought back in as a measurement Much easier than getting out the scales.

MarsLady · 23/08/2006 10:29

I add oats to mine.... yummy! Sometimes I add currants, but DS1 doesn't like them. Sigh..............

crunchie · 23/08/2006 10:31

I do the butter, flour, oats, brown sugar combo, but don't have an idea of quanties. I just chuck some flour in the food processor (I guess a cup full) add a big spoonfull butter or marg, whizz for a minute, add some oats and some brown sugar!! Takes about 2 mins

crunchie · 23/08/2006 10:32

If you whizz too much it goes too fine and becomes a crust not a crumble, hence teh oats. I also add chopped mixed nuts sometimes too

AvaLou · 23/08/2006 10:33

A pinch of nutmeg and grated or powdered ginger is good in crumble too.

AvaLou · 23/08/2006 10:35

I couldn't use a food processor for this kind of thing , I find the whole process very therapeutic, rubbing it all in and seeing it transform.
until the phone rings/baby cries and I'm covered in crap, LOL

Bread dough is the worst for that as it's not easy to wash off quickly!
