Alternatives to Deep Fat Fryer? For Home Made Battered Fish?

Hi,

Ok so we have fish and chips every Sunday - normally just frozen stuff that you chuck in the oven. But fresh fish battered and fried is much nicer! We have tried shallow frying it in a sauce pan but it was rubbish.

Are there any alternatives to a deep fat fryer I should consider? We would only be using it once a week/fortnight for fish really. I am happy with oven chips!

Thanks
TOOIK

I don't have a deep fat fryer so when I fry stuff I just put oil halfway up in a saucepan. Have fried chips and battered onions (not at the same time!) and they come out lovely.
