Food storing like a hamster!

Hi

I am new to mumsnet and this is my first post so "hello"!!

I wondered if anyone else out there had experience of food storage with their toddler. My DS is 2 years 2 months and has takend to storing food in the side of his mouth like a hamster. He will maybe do this after the first couple of spoons but will go on to eat the entire rest of his meal whilst keeping it there. At the end he will ask to spit it out which I do not like, but if I let him get down from the table with it still there he would keep it there for hours! I really don't want to create a mealtime war with an otherwise good eater, but have no idea how to discourage this behaviour. Have tried star stickers and all the usual persuasions but nothing works. I would love to know if anyone else has experienced this.

Thank you in advance!

IS the stored food chewed up meat? if so, just make the meat bits smaller.

welcome to mumsnet.

Hi

Thanks for your responses. Food is chewed up - have been really careful to give small spoonfuls though and to make sure that food is cut up small. He is such a monkey though as he will even feed say melon to himself and then store it and not eat it. I am thinking this is just another phase!!!
