Right i was thinking of doing a stir fry. I have never done one before, so haven't got a clue what to do or what shoulkd go in it. The local co-op do a stir fry family pack of veg so i was going to get that, but what else do i put in ???
Was thinking of chicken, but something even cheaper than that would be even better.

chicken or beef, remember to brown it first though before you put the veg in. Or pork would be fine. I use prawns aswell. I marinade the prawns first in hot chilli sauce and they taste lovely. or you could just use .vegetables!!

noodles? i love them in stir frys, you can get them in a straight-to-wok version too

Get some chicken and marinade in dark soy sauce for a bit (chop into little strips first)

Get your pack of stir fry veg and any other bits you want, I usually add red peppers, mushrooms, spring onions and sometimes baby corn. Chop them all into v. small strips (except the baby corn!)

Mix a couple of tablespoons of dark soy sauce, one of worcester sauce (if you like it), some finely grated ginger and some tabasco in a cup.

Heat some oil until smoking a tiny bit in a big frying pan or wok. Put the chicken in and stir fry (ie moving around quickly) until cooked. It will sizzle and spit! Then chuck in the veggies and stir fry for about 3 or 4 minutes. Finally add the soy sauce mix and stir it through the veggie/chicken mix until it's hot and has coated it all.

Alternatively you can buy stir fry sauces eg sharwoods do a nice hoi sin and spring onion one, or black bean, yellow bean, whatever you like really. Use in place of the soy sauce mix.

HTH!

Tofu is another alternative. Make sure you marinade it

Ooh thanks for that. I definatly won't be using black bean sauce or soy sauce as no one likes it (including me). I will have a look in the shop later.

Noodles though would go down a storm. DD1 would have them for breakfast dinner and tea if i let her

Only add a tiny amount of oil - if you are stir frying veggies - cook them real quick with a bit of water as this steams on a high heat and you won't get soggy veg!! (especially if doing large things like baby sweetcorn or brocolli)

Making me hungry here folks.

nutcracker · 16/03/2004 16:24

CD's recipe sounds sublime, and I'd add a splodge of honey too.

nutcracker · 16/03/2004 18:51

I did it.

I just browned off the chicken, chucked the veg in and then the sauce and noodles. There was a recipie on the noodle packet so i followed that.

It was lovely. DD1 ate most of hers despite it being a bit hot. DD2 hardly touched hers but then she has smashed her mouth open in the playground today. Cut her gums and bit her lip. Looks much worse than it is, her lip is enormous.

Anyway i will definatly do it again (the stir fry, that is )

This talk of stir fry meant I did one too!

nutcracker · 16/03/2004 20:15

Hope you enjoyed it LOU

I can't wait to have another one. The best thing was, it took minutes to do and there was hardly any washing up

We usually have them fairly often, but it made me realise that we hadn't for a month or so recently.
