Stews to feed 6-8 people, what ovenware?

I love stews, and I love to serve up good stews.

I dont have an oven dish big enough for when we have guests though!

We are are family of 4, and the most we would ever host (to serve a stew!) is another family of 4, so 8 people where 4 are kids.

Can you suggest me some lovely oven to table ware?

I use LeCruset for casseroles and stews. Fry, stew and serve in one container - lovely.

I have several sizes, little one for when it is just the four of us, up to one which will hold about 15 portions.

Pyroflam plain white. Goes with any colour/table scheme, is flameproof to start off on the hob, and freezer proof for when cooled. It's my go to staple cooking dish. We have the slightly older style which was wider and flatter in the round casseroles, the new ones are quite deep, but I do love my pyroflam!

What sizes do I need for 8 people?

I like my chasseur pot for this. Try tk max, or home sense, you'll get a decent make, cheaper!

I'm looking for some too, it need to suit induction and the cast iron griddle has already damaged the glass, so I need to find something less brutal. Pyroflam sounds interesting. Also saw a stainless steel pan from Aga that I was quite impress with, more functional looking though.

I got a large, deep, enamelled lidded casserole dish from IKEA 20 years ago, which is still going strong. I suspect that it's cast iron under the enamel.

I'd say at least a 2lt/4pt dish for 8 people (inc 4 children), and possibly a 3lt for 8 adults, but to some extent it depends on serving sizes too. Pyroflam is also a lot lighter than cast iron - I have a lot of Chasseur cast iron too and rarely use it because it's simply too heavy when full. Pyroflam is also sometimes known as Corningware especially in the States and on the Continent, and also amongst older people, but there are both flameproof and non flameproof Corningware ranges, and it can be sourced in vintage designs on ebay fairly readily though you might pay mucho money for it.

Best all round pan I own. I have used it to make stews to feed 10 people.

I use it for lots of different recipes, on the hob and in the oven. And it goes in the dishwasher.

I'd invest in a Crockpot. Slow cookers are great for stews and the ceramic pot is fine to take to the table. Even more useful when you're having guests.
