Thread for those who are trying to eat "better"

Octopus37 · 07/02/2014 14:26

Following on from yesterdays thread "Do I eat too much", which I posted on, I was unsurprising told that what I eat is crap. Have been feeling pretty crap the last few weeks, not enough energy low libido, sluggish, wound up, down - so have decided to see if changing my eating habits can shift things a bit. I'm not overweigh 5ft5, 8st6lbs, (slightly on the heavy side for me), but would be pleased if I did loose a few pounds, trying not to make weight the focus. Have decided to take a vitamin pill with iron every day, last year had v low ferratin levels so had to take iron tablets for a while. I'm not promising to do well every day and cut out sugar completely as I feel that I would be destined to fail. However, I am going to try to I improve. Today have eaten:
1 pack of Belvita biscuits
1 Actvia extra creamy yoghurt
1 large apple
1 Danone (high protein yoghurt)
3 Oatcakes
Some cashew nuts
I am planning on sweet chilli chicken & rice (ready meal cause of money diet) with some stir fried veg for tea and plan to eat some red grapes afterwards. Also may have some sort of a treat on school run. Also aim is to replace the Belvita biscuits with oatcakes for breakfast and maybe eat them with some cheese. Know I'm not doing perfectly but I am making an effort. Buddies welcome.

Hi everyone. You all sound like you're doing well in making changes. I've completely fallen off the wagon. Succumbed to white bread. Busy week this week(excuses, I know), but hope to be taking steps forward next week.

Octopus37 · 06/03/2014 08:33

Hi, how is everyone doing today. Fasted yesterday, normal healthy eating today. Just had my usual breakfast. Think I am v gradually learning about mindful eating, ate two mini eggs (included in my fast calories yesterday) very slowly and really enjoyed them.

Boiled egg and toast, white bread as that's all Dad has.

Lunch will be trout, new potatoes and sweet corn, green beans.

Looking forward to going home and being in control again though.

How's everyone?Smile

I have done okish so far today, no binging.

Usual breakfast
An apple
2 piece of toast with lemon and coriander humus, a few crisps with more humus (I measured a few out rather than eating out of tube)
A Satsuma
A Cadburys Dairy Milk

Going out with a friend tonight, am aiming to have a healthish dinner and maybe one alcoholic drink. TBH feel that I am doing better and cannot totally do without treats, just trying to keep everything else healthy and be more mindful.

Urgh I had a cheese and ham tissue. White bread AGAIN!Hmm the stuff tasted like card board to me now. Never mind, home tomorrow.

Sleepwhenidie · 06/03/2014 23:51

Don't get stressed Dame , think of your time at the mercy of your Dad's fridge as reinforcing what you already knew about what food makes you feel best Smile.

Octopus37 · 07/03/2014 06:59

Went out last night and had a Mediterranean platter which included spicy chicken, humus, olives, grilled halloumi with roquito pepper and flatbreads, was yum, normally would have gone for a platter with loads of onion rings, potato wedges etc. Didn't eat all the humus or flatbreads. Was pleased that Ii had made a healthyish choice, although I did have a couple of ciders.

Dame - You are doing fine, at least there is some protein in the chicken and ham.

This week has been a bit of a write off! First week with both of us working and I'm knackered.

I have managed not to totally fall off the wagon - well, I'm not really thinking of it as a wagon TBH, as it is the bigger picture overall that counts. But the balance this week hasn't been as good. That's really helping me - if I thought of it as failure it'd be much harder to keep going.

But it has really driven home just how organised I need to be going forward, for the DCs as well as myself, and for the bank balance! Not sure when we will get our next delivery but I'll need to plan properly when ordering.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/03/2014 11:35

Breakfast was eggs, toast and yoghurt and mango. I didn't have the bacon that was on offer-yay meWink

When I used to work the only way I could do it was to batch cook in the slow cooker and freeze it to eat during the week. That was pre ds,I have no idea how anyone manages to work with kids and eat well!

Octopus37 · 07/03/2014 16:46

Haven't done that well today, but to be honest have had a bit of a bad stomach and have instinctively known that fruit and veg aren't really the right things to eat. Have eaten:

Breakfast - 2 slices of toast with sugar free peanut butter
Lunch - 2 slices of toast with sugar free peanut butter
3 squares of dark chocolate
A Dairy Milk
Have got a Chicken Tagiatelle ready meal for tonight (not ideal but on money diet) and also a yoghurt for dinner (high protein one).

Suppose at least I haven't really overeaten, just needed to eat what was right for my stomach.

Have also eaten a chocolate croissant that husband bought home, to stop me being temped by it for breakfast tomorrow, another very thin slice of peanut butter on toast, a bit of garlic bread. Not great, today has been another stress day, work related. Obviously far too many carbs, will improve tomorrow,

Dame sounds as if you are doing great, but are you eating enough? Too me doesn't sound very much, but could be because I am a carb addict.

OP posts:
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 09/03/2014 11:34

Octopus- I was stuffed, didn't feel hungry at all. 6 weeks ago I could've eaten all that for breakfast and still been hungryGrin

Today however I'm starving, I'm already planning my lunchGrin I had 2 eggs and a banana for break fast and going to have prawns and pimped up salad for lunch.

Dinner will be steak, new potatoes and green beans.
